  • When you buy, look for
    - Energy Star Ratings (1-5, 5 stars for best savings)
    - Wattage (lower the better)
    - Common tips for usage
    - Check out old devices, inefficient design/usage (No CFC) Newer TVs/ACs/etc. consume 25-50% less than old models
    - Reduce or combine usage
    More specifically –
  • Change ‘default’ settings on your TV (meant to impress you!)
    - Save 25-30% (Brightness, Contrast, Color)
    - For your Refrigerator/Fridge
    - Store at a cooler location with ventilation at the back
    - Don’t open the doors frequently
    - Check door sealing, time to time
    - Change settings – based on the season
    - Manage your food storage (throw away if too old)
    - For your Air Conditioner (AC)
    - Set to comfortable temperature, not necessarily the ‘coolest’
    - Use curtains/awnings to keep out direct sunlight
    - Keep the doors closed
    - Checkout insulation of windows, doors and leaks
    - Use a fan to supplement cooling
  • Estimate your own load and estimate how much you’d pay
  • Add up Wattage for all energy devices in your home and calculate kWH based on Usage
• Don’t Waste – Petrol/Diesel
  • Do more Car Pooling and combine errands
  • Consider, service and watch out for ‘fuel efficiency’
  • Walking and Cycling are good for exercise
    
  • Trains are good mass transport, can be fun and safe
  • Look for solar-powered/hybrid electric vehicles
• Recycle
  • Pick the product with least packaging
  • Separate waste – based on material
    i. Separate bins for – Paper, Plastic, Glass, Food
  • Look to donate/recycle your clothes, books, electronics to needy
  • Waste food or water can be used as compost/AC or for plants
• THINK OF YOUR OWN IDEAS! EVERY IDEA IS GOOD – WHEN PRACTISED! BETTER IF YOU TELL OTHERS!
